Compiling the annual reference cost
database is the work of a few man-days for CostFlex System
users. Some of the major improvements to be seen are:
Data Quality With CostFlex, there will be no guessing at the
amount of resources consumed by each of the thousands of
groups defined.
Each patient will fall into a reporting group based on
patient type (Inpatient, Outpatient, A&E, etc), HRG
code, Specialty Code, Admit Code (elective,
non-elective), First or Follow-up attendance, and so
forth.
The actual resources consumed from each department –
Pathology, Radiology, Supplies, implants, Pharmacy, - is
already known and easily summed for the group.
Transparency The report is auditable. The ‘bill’ of services for
each patient in each group can be printed or exported to
excel or another database where the reported costs can
be verified.
Timeliness Within a few days after the minimum data sets are
imported into the CostFlex database in late April, the
reference cost report can be prepared.
